Thanks so much, Pete. Printing (almost) works now. I configured it
using the system menus.

When I print from an application like OOo or kate, it works fine, but:
when I try to print with lp in a shell script, it doesn't get to the
printer.
When i run lpstat, it says:

Printer: Ritas_DJ460 at sananda 'HP Deskjet 460 hpijs' (dest
Ritas_DJ460 at sanada)

Then it shows the jobs I tried to print followed by:

Error: loop in printcap- Ritas_DJ460 at sananda -> Ritas_DJ460 at sananda

This is a local usb printer. It's not "remote". I told it "local"
during the setup.
Printcap has one line in it (that's not a comment):

Ritas_DJ460|HP Deskjet 460 hpijs:rm=sananda:rp=Ritas_DJ460:

There's no "lp" argument in printcap. (The printcap man says there's
supposed to be one for a local printer.)

/dev/usblp0 exists and is probably the printer.

My hostname is sananda.

When I go into the system menus and look at my printer, it shows up and
says its queue is empty.

So, how do I print from a shell script? I would like to keep using lp
because my duplex printing emulation package is designed that way.

BTW, I'm looking at the NTFS stuff, but it's too much trouble to install
anything "extra" until I get either wireless or dialup to work. For now
I have to go to Windoze to get online.

Joe
