        Enabling the root account

To enable the root account (i.e. set a password) use:

sudo passwd root

Enter your existing password
Enter password for root
Confirm password for root

Also, for cups, it explains right on the cups start page....
/Administrative commands are disabled in the web interface for security
reasons. Please use the GNOME CUPS manager (System > Administration >
Printing). |/usr/share/doc/cupsys/README.Debian.gz| describes the
details and how to reenable it again.
If you want to enable web administration with shadow passwords
(authentication type 'basic'), put the user cupsys into group shadow by
"adduser cupsys shadow" as root./

/And to get rw to work for ntfs, go here.... http://www.ntfs-3g.org/
/
