[nflug] Opening Thunderbird emsil files

In Thunderbird (1.5 on Win 98SE), I can select an email message and do a 
File->Save as a file.   It saves the message as a file named 
subject-line.eml.  In Windoze, I can click on that file from Explorer, 
etc. and Thunderbird will start up and open the file as desired.

What I want to do is the same thing on Linux (Mandrake 9.1 / Tbird 
1.07).  I tried setting the file type ".eml" to use mypath/thunderbird 
and my path/thunderbird-bin n the Konqueror file manager window "home", 
but double clicking on the file causes some disk activity then nothing else.

Anybody know how to get this to work?
