If you have an IDE CD burner, make sure that you tell the system to install the
'ide-scsi' module.  Used to have to put something like 'hdc=ide-scsi' in the
boot arguments.  Don't know what you do with Redhat but that's probably it. 
This makes the IDE cdrom act like a SCSI device.  The system even puts in a new
 fake SCSI controller to make things smoother.  Then the CD will be called
/dev/sg0.

Try that and let us know what happens...
