Playing MP3's is really CPU intensive due to their high compression
ratios.

A few things to look at:

what does the top program show?

What apps are running when you invoke the mp3 player?

What mp3 player are you using?

What programs are being loaded upon boot? (include a list from
/etc/rc.d/init.d)

You can also use nice to up the priority on the mp3 player.

To be intoxicated is to feel sophisticated but not be able to say it.
