Use the latest knoppix cd as it has lvm support. After you boot with the 
cd (you can boot with "knoppix 2" if you don't want all the gui), type 
lvm at the root prompt, do an lvscan to show what your volumes are 
called, you'll see that they are inactive. Type "vgchange -a y 
nameofvolume", this will activate your volume group. You can then quit, 
and from root command mount your lvm with "mount /dev/volumename/lvname 
wherever"
