Umm, one last thought on the line signal:

I went through problems with my ISP's DSL connection dropping.  After
the line-noise test from their end, and a tech coming here to put in
filters, and testing, and the whole deal, it turned out that between the
two of us we came up with the fact that despite filters, the 900MHz
cordless phone that our family had was generating line noise under
certain conditions --even when it was not being actually used to make a
call. 

I bought a new 2.4GHz cordless phone[too cheap to invest in a 5.8GHz ,
even though the sound is a lot better. . .] and have had no problems
since then.

If you have a way to test a different telephone for a few days, try that.
