Mac Open Directory server is OpenLDAP if I'm not mistaken.

Solaris for SPARC/x86 is available to no cost and can be downloaded from 
Sun website. If you're more comfortable sticking with Linux you can go 
the CentOS route which is RHEL, just grab the version which is the 
equivalent version.
