Jason, you will have fun.
You have to use yaboot, and openfirmware possibly
these helped me get Debian Sarge on a blue imac 333mhz

http://www.debian.org/ports/powerpc/inst/yaboot-howto/
http://playground.sun.com/1275/home.html

Note: I had to mess with xfree86 (gdm) and change the 16 resolution to
15 in order for display and make it the defaultdepth, dang it might have
been the other way around can't remember now... so if your display
doesn't work edit your xorg and change it to the opposite of 15 or 16

I also had to refresh the openfirmware several instances too I believe
this was during the yaboot phase of fun.

I played with ppc on G4's, Imacs, and Beige G3's I got them all to work,
but sacrificed a good deal of time, reading, learning, trouble
shooting. On some occasions it just worked perfectly on other occasions
I let the computer sit by itself in a corner for months, because it had
been so bad.

Enjoy, and I'll try to help you as best I can, it is a commitment.

It is slighty similar to installing openBSD, of course that might be on
the G4's or later.
