If it is a philips chipset it most likely will use the bttv module. What
do you have currently in your modules file? (don't know exact
name/location of modules file in ubuntu). If your system doesn't
recognize the card, mythtv wont either. If you have the kernel docs on
your system, there is some pretty good info on what options to use with
what chipsets, etc.. You should send the output of lspci to the list
and I will dig a little for ya.
