In windows DNS the update happens because the windows DNS and DHCP are
setup to talk to each other...

Have no fear you can do the same thing in linux as long as the linubx
box is providing both DHCP and DNS.
There's several howto's out there for DHCP and DNS integration, here's
two below.  The first is easy (debian centric,  but that matters
little) The second is basically the same thing with a LOT more
explanation.
