I personally use gftp to transfer all my files and I find that
reliable. As for editors I use bluefish
(http://bluefish.openoffice.nl/index.html) and Kate
(http://kate.kde.org/). For more advanced coding (Java) I use netbeans
and for C/C++ I use kdevelop. Hope this helps!
