[nflug] ubuntu kernel upgrade

If you are trying to obtain a kernel newer than what your Linux distro
uses, then you most likely will not find in on any apt-get, yum, or rpm
repositories, except for unsupported builds. You can download and
compile your own kernel, though it's generally not for the novice... If
you don't mind playing around and a few crashes and/or reinstalls, then
give it a whirl, you've got nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Personally, I use Slackware Linux and have 2.6.14 installed, though the
latest supported kernel for Slackware is 2.6.13 & 2.4.31. In those
cases, compiling from scratch is the way to go if you want to be
bleeding edge. It's also a good way to get a kernel that supports your
hardware and nothing else... Some folks swear that it greatly increases
their system speed, others say that the difference is negligible.
