3Ware has had IDE-raid drivers in linux for the longest period of time.  They
are also TRUE hardware RAID,  unlike some other cards. (I'm not familiar with
LSI's SATA versions, though I have a dual channel LSI U160 card and it's well
supported..  The 3ware drivers have been in the kernel the longest so you
should have the least issues with them. (no need to patch or compile a custom
driver)
