I do recall that the errors I'm getting doing a disk-info in cdrdao seem to
indicate either drive problems or Bad media. THe TDK 48X media I've been
usinghas worked smashingly so far on everything else and I've been trying to
burn at like speeds of 2-6!
So before I screw everything I HAVE working up, I will go buy a few types of
CD-R CD-RW and try those as well - If cdrdao can't even give me a disk info
then I have to believe the media has issues in the drive. That was why I am
currently trying to flash the Plextor to its newest firmware. Jorge schilling
wrote the linux installer for that as well so if the guy has issue with the way
linux implemented the IDE ATAPI interface I tend to think he knows what he's
talking about. However I'm not willing to switch to Solaris jsut to use His
OS.
I upgraded Kernel to 2.6.11 (debian latest)and will try media as I can - tell
you how it comes out. Glad to hear others are working fine
By the by, vlok and cyber were you using DVD burners or IDE CDr burners? I
know my device is ATA:1,0,0 but if I try to -scanbus dev=ATA: I get hung on
/dev/hda (a reported debian bug). I can scanbus with ATAPI or /dev/hdc but
still not love from the recorder when trying to write,
To date 2 cds have come out of the burner successfully in something like 50
tries so I have to find the magic mix of /firmware/cdrecord version/media/and
juxtaposition of mars with mercury I suppose.
