Actually a really good site, expecially for newbies is
www.linuxquestions.org

..also a local guy here made it and heads it all up!

I used to visit that site fairly frequently, as it is a "gateway to all 
things Linux" , and I was disappointed when it went down.
I had given up on it, but now I will renew my bookmarks.
