GTK Themes

Hi,

I have just attempted to install a GTK Theme.
Running Gnome from the main menu I used,
> Configuration > Gnome > Theme

Choosing "Install Theme" entering the path to the tar-ball and clicking
"Install" did create ~/.themes and unpacked the tar-ball into
~/.themes/themename.  However the new theme does not show up as a choice
when changing themes.  I tried both a gtk1 and gtk2 theme, same thing
with both.

The system is running Mandrake 9.2 with Gnome installed.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
