If you want to use another SMTP you don't need sendmail, you just
configure you email client to to use whatever SMTP. You don't need
sendmail.

I removed the old sendmail and installed the newest version from the 
debian unstable tree. I ran sendmailconfig however this did not ask 
anything about SMTP. All I want it for sendmail to connect and send my 
mail through serverx's SMTP server. Where do I go from now?
