Pete Thanks I got it working.  I redid the sndconfig and it worked.

So you have no sound whatsoever? You can test the sound with the sound
server through the control panel of kde. Could your volume for the sound
server have gotten turned all the way down? Does the system bitch about
anything when you reboot? Is this on the same box as windows that has no
sound problem?
