The easiest way I have found to use Java is to just install it and then
symlink to a known path, and you should put 1.4 on. After the install,
just type as root, "ln -s /usr/java/j2k-version/bin/java /usr/bin/java"
without the quotes. If you can type "java -version" at the command
prompt, you should see the correct newer version.

In the instructions from Sun it says to PATH variable to PATH=/usr/local/jdk1.2.2./bin:$PATH in the ~/.profile file. I set it in the .bash_profile and do export and it works but after I close my bash sell the variable path is lost and I have to export PATH=/usr/local/jdk1.2.2./bin:$PATH every time I want to run java. Does anyone know how to get this to run wthout always doing the export? Does Redhat 8.0 have the .profile? I tried doing ls -a to list hidden files but I dont see it anywhere? Any suggestions Thanks! << File: snapshot4.png >> << File: snapshot5.png >>
