It appears that RedHat 8 uses it's own version of GDM now, when I change
/etc/sysconfig/desktop to KDE, then if I choose to loginto the default
desktop it's now KDE. It looks like that doesn't controll the login
manager anymore. Looks like prefdm is always gdm now. Going to have to
change inittab to respawn kdm not prefdm, like joe was saying.

Change this
x:5:respawn:/etc/X11/prefdm -nodaemon
