GNOME double click

I've been playing with GNOME recently [which ever version comes 
with Mandrake 8.1], and double click does not work on the desktop 
or in Nautilus [the file manager]. The Window manager is sawfish. 
If I open a KDE program in GNOME, double click works inside that 
app. According to GNOME's Help double click to open should work. 
Any ideas ??
