Do you mean you don't have an internet connection, or IRC?  IRC is merely a
service that runs on a server that you connect to with a client.  I use BitchX
but Zircon or Xirc are some.  When I had only a dial-up on my windows box I
chatted in IRC on the windows box and made the changes and reboots on teh Linux
box, I was half-way there!  Now I have a Linux server in console to caht in and
a Linux gamer to make changes in , all good things come to those who take the
time and effort to learn something new (what is this wait stuff anyway?)

/var/logs/* <--look her and cat [file] |less to view it
also use Mandrake Ctrl center (if ou are in Mandrake and go down to System/Logs
for graphical stuff.
