Joystick

I have a SBLive with gameport and a MS Sidewinder 3D pro joystick I woudl like
to use with Flight GEar.  But how do i make it work. I assumed plugging it in
woudl do it and running Harddrake but no goood. I then modprobed, sidewinder,
input, analog, and gameport and joydev but still not sure what I have working
or not,

Help please, I read joystick.txt but no help and found a page about mandrake
but still very confused...
