Network settings

Just to make sure, It's a desktop and not a laptop right?  I know in Debian I
always had to reinstall the PCMCIA package after upgrading or compiling hte
kernel.

Perhaps something similar is happening, or can you get out to the netowrk just
not to the proxy server?
