[nflug] not booting w/out acpi=off boot option

After pulling my hair out I finally came across some
thing that worked. If you have to shut off acpi (cuz
you were unfortunate enough to want linux on a Compaq)

add to grub -> apm=power-off
and also 
modprobe apm power_off=1
and add to /etc/modules
apm power_off=1

Hope this helps someone in the future!!
