Wireless nics under debian (or linux in general)

I finally gave up after failing to compile a new hostap driver, and failing to
compile kernel modules for 2.6.8-2-386 kernel. (In fact as a test I tried to
compile a cmd line IRC client (from aboutdebian.com) and that failed - so I
guess I can't compile anything!).
Anywho I was able to acquire a Cisco Air PCM350. Works flawlessly from the
word "go". Drivers work, setup works, in fact what I got from a week of trying
to get 2 unsupported cards working was the knowledge on how best to use
supported cards (WEP enabled, automatically renames interface to cisco0 instead
of eth0 using ifrename etc etc). So I won't consider it all wasted time. And I
can still use the SanDisk card for when I bring my work laptop home.
