case mod question

Well - This is a fairly simple 2 step function that would need some work -
All you need is a switch that is triggered from the serial port standards:

serial port transmits '1' as voltage from -5 to -12V and '0' as voltage from
+5 to +12 V

This most likley would be a simple NPN transistor circuit (Always off until
voltage applied) where the signal from the serial port is connected to the
base of the transistor and when it sees the +5v the path from collector to
the emitter (the +12v from the power line form inside of the computer) is
created. GREAT diagram on the transistor circuit on this website:

http://www.schoolnet.ca/vp-pv/robotics/e/education/lessons/transistors.html

At that point you would just need a program in linux to send the +5V signal.
Simple and about $5 worth of parts at Radio Shack. Make the circuit and
find the program, bundle it and start selling it! :)

Hope this helps....

Ron

Interesting, never heard of such a beast. What are you looking for it to
signify?

Hey guys,

I’m looking for some sort of case lights (neon or led)

but the catch is that I need them computer controlled..

someway/somehow I need to be able to turn them on or off via software..

does such a beast exist?
