Hey,
There's a really good way to check if the CODEC you need is installed:

`mplayer -vfm help`

On any recent compiliation of mplayer, it will display a list of every
CODEC mplayer is compiled to handle. Be sure to check that the codec you
need is in here. (I.E. "qtvideo" in the case of almost ANY quicktime
file.) The mplayer documentation (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/DOCS/codecs.html)
provides an excellent write-up for support of almost any codec. Hope I
did something useful ^_^;;
