After doing a fresh install of 9.1 I thought I'd give my joystick a whirl. I
hate not having joysticks in Linux for using PS or Arcade emu programs (all
legal of course!)

Well after many hours I finally realized that the joystick I thought I was
gettign to work (Old Sidewinder 3d on SB Live gameport) was not the joystick
producing output the Playstsion controller in the USB HID was! I never
expected that to work! Well that prompted me to keep trying and I finally got
the Modules installed in the correct order and got the sidewinder with all 4
axis and all 8 button recognized and of course what would have to come next
FLIGHTGEAR. Man what a great game (is it a gmae?) with a real joystick! I now
must get a USB rudder. I was able to map jeys to both joysticks for some
really kewl combos. Still hate having the mixture mapped to the POV hat since
I keep shutting off my engines if I take my thumb off the hat :-)

Well I flew a circuit and landed (not very well) but I was able to use my
horizon to check my attitude and keep my speed and power in check. Man flying
for real is NOTHING like a video game, lots of SMALL SMALL corrections.

Man I really need a rudder :-)
OK Now that I have the modules I need how do I get them in automatically is it
as simple as adding the modules name to modules.conf? or do I have to add some
precursor like "add gameport" I found a website for SB Live under Linux that
talks about all the features and how to use them (if they work).

The joystick package is a great help as well and the js_demo and jstest and
js_calc tools are very helpful in figuring out how the OS sees the action of
the joystick...also in FG use the fgjs tool to automatically create a FG
command to joystick map...

goodluck.

Oh by the way all my joysticks or input devices will be USB from now on! :-)
