newbie redhat update problem

My problem has come back.

I see now that the gui coming up has to do with being connected to the
cable modem or not on the boot. It comes up with the long
ny-lackawannacadent4-etc. adelphia pathname as the login directory in
bash when connected, or it will come up to Gnome if the cable modem is
on standby and no connection is found on the boot. Is it trying to be
a server perhaps?

I'm still working on the particular details. Like if the connection
is activated after boot the redhat auto-update icon shows an error
message and the browser won't load. Although I have been on line with
this machine. It may be how I log in? Root or user?

Is there experience with this happening? Maybe something normal that
only has to be learned about? :-/ I'll post more details later today
I think.

When's the next meeting? I'll bring the box. :-)

Thanks.

Floyd
