Mozilla 1.4 install

Hi. I just tried to install Mozilla 1.4 on my system (Mandrake 9.1 RC2)
and ran into problems.
I downloaded mozilla-i686-pc-linux-gnu-1.4-sea.tar.gz from mozilla.org
into my installs directory under my user (bigbird).
I su'd to root and did a tar -xvzf of it.
I renamed the /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3 dir to /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3-sav
(where locate found all the stuff that looked like mozilla executabes).
There are a couple of mozilla files in /usr/bin (mozilla, mozplugger).
I didn't touch them (and the 1.4 install didn't either).
I ran the mozilla-installer file. I didn't see any mozilla stuff in
/usr/local, so I told it to put the new one in /usr/lib/mozilla-1.4.
The install appeared to complete correctly and the browser started
itself (as part of the install).
I went back to normal user (bigbird) and my desktop icons for Mozilla
are still there and take a while to try to execute and then just terminate.
I went back into root and managed to get the browser to work by running
the run.mozilla.sh script that comes with the install, but (I guess
since I'm root) it doesn't look at my .mozilla stuff (bigbird), so it
has no bookmarks and no email addresses etc.

Where am I supposed to install it to?

How do I get my user desktop icons working again and get it to access
all the stuff in /home/bigbird/.mozilla and in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins?

This message is coming to you because I just renamed
/usr/lib/mozilla-1.3-sav back to /usr/lib/mozilla-1.3. That brought my
desktop icons back to life, but it's still mozilla 1.3.

Thanks

Joe
