mkcdrec

Hi. I'm trying to learn how to use mkcdrec to back up my system.
I installed mkcdrec-v0.7.2-1.i386.rpm and ran it. I told it to write to
my removeable hard disk.
I'm not sure it's configured to work correctly with Mandrake 9.1 (rc2).

Before I burn a bunch of coasters, I have some questions.

Questions:
Why did it still try to burn a CD? (I don' t have the command line or
menu options I used any more, but I was convinced I told it to save to
disk, not CDROM, and it did save the files to my second hard drive.)

What happens if you or a program forms a file ref like
/var/opt/mkcdrec/stage//lib ... with two adjacent slashes in it?

If it worked correctly, it made and checked backups of:

Doing integrity testing on backups.

hda6._boot.log.gz: OK
hda7._.log.gz: OK
hda9._home.log.gz: OK
  rd-base.img.bz2: ok

I still need backups of hda1 and hda5 (Windoze partitions). I assume
that hda 2 - 4 are unused and since hda8 is swap, it doesn't requre backup.
How can I easily backup Windoze so that I could (theoretically) reformat
the partitions and reload it just like it was - ready to boot? (I like
the idea of image backups like dump and restore use, but I'm not sure
exactly how to do it.)

I would like to set it up for regular (cron job?) backups to my second
hard drive and also do occasional backups to CDROM. This will only work
if I can convince it not to try to burn CDROMS when it's running as a
regular (unattended) backup.

It produced 21 pages of output (attached). There were some
"interesting" messages in it. Are any of them significant?
