Well, first of all, it's not tuner.o, it's tuner.o.gz.
You shouldn't have to compile or change anything if the device is found.
You need to get tuner loaded. You should be able to 'modprobe tuner' and
get it loaded. You may have to play around with the modules.conf file
to add something like:
options tuner type=1
and do a 'depmod -a', followed by 'rmmod tuner' and 'modprobe tuner',
changing the 1 to 2, etc until it will tune for you.
