Hi, Joe.
When you say "I ran sudo iptables -L and it comes back empty" I'm not sure I know what you mean. It should have returned a crapload of data.  Try a command more to the point, maybe. To see the sate of open ports on your machine, run [as root, or sudo]
 netstat --listen

And see if the port you think you have open is listening on your local machine.  If it is, then we can test the router to see if that port is open.

I'm not familiar with a Westel 327W specifically. Can you log onto it get into an "Advanced Setup" admin web interface?  If so, there should --one hopes-- be a way to open individual ports. It might be menued under "Special program access" or something like that. It might not be listed under "Firewall," but under "NAT", like it is in my USRobotics router.

What say we move this thread to the WNYLUG list? I'm under the impression that we're supposed to be phasing out of the NFLUG list.
