[nflug] kde restores unwanted windows on startup

I'm using kde 3.5.10 on kubuntu hardy.
I have it configured to restore my previous sessions when I log in
(usually, just after turning the computer on) and I also have an
autostart script that checks to see what's running and loads a few
things if they're not already there.
It's set up so that when I log in, I get Firefox, Thunderbird, Konsole,
and Konqueror loaded automatically on separate desktops so I'm ready to
do just about anything I normally do without having to startup anything
else.
I really like the restore session feature and don't want to just turn it
off.
The problem I'm having is that I'm getting an additional window (kate
with a file I edited awhile ago) reloaded every time I log in that I
know was not open when I shut down the computer and that is not started
by my autostart script.
Anybody know where kde stores the session restore information? It must
be somewhere in $HOME/.kde, but I don't see it.
If it's not binary, maybe I can manually clean it up.
Any ideas why this might be happening in the first place?
I seem to be having the same problem on my tower - kde 3.1 on Mandrake
9.1 (set up in a similar fashion) (gedit with an old file), so it may be
something I'm doing wrong.
Any help would be appreciated.
Joe
P.S. If anyone is interested, I can post my kde autostart scripts. It
was pretty hard to figure out how to set them up. The documentation was
buried and not all that clear.
