Tail your /var/log/messages file and also keep an eye
on your smb log files to see if that helps.

I first had issues when I went from CentOS4 to
CentOS5. I thought about going to CentOS4.5 when that
came out, but decided against it.

I might install the newest test Fedora on my test
laptop.
