[nflug] GNOME Desktop Startup in VNC

For vnc to display gnome got into ~./vnc/xstartup and
# Uncomment the following two lines for normal desktop:
unset SESSION_MANAGER
exec /etc/X11/xinit/xinitrc

For the SMTP server, did you check to see if you have any firewall on. Try
iptables --flush and then try to connect
