As far as my problem using KNOPPIX 5.0 and 5.1.1  _it is_ this
particular cdrom drive that is the issue.  I just found another Lite-On
model: LTN-486s cdrom drive and it also failed.  I'm going to download
knoppix 4.02 and see how it fares with this particular cdrom drive.
