[nflug] icons for kubuntu desktop

I'm using kubuntu dapper.

I created a shell script and a desktop link to run it.  I want to change
the icon it uses.
I right click the icon and select Properties.
When I click on the icon picture in Properties and go to a directory
that contains .png files, it shows an empty list of choices.

What does it want to see?  .xpm files only?
