That's odd, I wouldn't think it would be in unstable. But check your apt 
sources and see if you have some that are commented, if so, uncomment 
them. apt-get update, search for the package again, if you find it, 
install it, then you could go back in your sources and comment the ones 
you uncommented back out, if your concerned about pulling stuff in, in 
the future. Run an update after every edit to the sources. It was a nice 
thing to see intel put there video drivers to open source. What version 
of xorg is Etch running?
