[nflug] verizon dsl and dns redirects

Ya gotta love when ISPs decide to violate the RFCs. Really annoying. I actually have scripts that check for failure status on DNS lookups. Verison makes sure that NO DNS queries fail. Check slashdot for information. I think this kind of thing has happened before. Verisign was doing that to the root name servers.
Of course, the simplest answer is to install your own BIND server and do your own lookups. It's not that hard to do and has the added benefit of being much faster than some of the ISP DNS servers (namely Time/Warner).
Hope this helps...
Cheers!
Bob

Has anyone else noticed that Verizon is now redirecting failed dns
queries to a Verizon branded search page? I just noticed this for the
first time this weekend and it's freaking annoying! Does anyone know of
an authority that people can complain to about this to force them to
stop?
