Most laptops allow for an external PS/2 keyboard and if not a USB one
and some BIOS will allow to disable the onboard one. I would look
correcting the keyboard issue. Dave's suggestions sound perfect but I
think if your system is screaming about the keyboard like that, your
going to have intermittent problems with all sorts of stuff. With this
being Ubuntu, you can try something very slick. Run "dpkg-reconfigure
xserver-xorg", then follow the prompts, you can allow for auto detection
or setting things manually via the prompts that you will be asked. It
will figure 3 things, video card, keyboard and monitor, in that order,
and then write a new xorg.conf file. Try different settings until your
system stops screamin about the keyboard.
