I haven't tried to install the Lindows NetZero package. But I have a 
feeling that your assumptions are correct. You do need to be root. When I 
worked at Compusa we got a "trial" copy (linux...trial....wtf) and 
installed it. I was very disgusted to find out that only a root account 
was reated. And it was so windows-like that you probably do need to be 
root to install it.
