[nflug] samba wont start, fedora core 4, thinkpad x41

Hi -

I installed Fedora core 4 on an IBM thinkpad X41, and am getting a weird samba error. SMB won't start. If I watch the messages upon bootup, it gives me the following complaint:

Starting SMB Services: /etc/init.d/functions:     line 83: 2461 aborted

Any attempts to start smbd yield "failure". 

Everything else works pretty much (except wireless, but that's another note). 

Any suggestions welcome.
