Hi, Steve.

As you may have found out by now, Mepis has the enlightenment windows
manager in it's synaptic repos --and I'm a synaptic-holic if there ever
was one. Too old & impatient to screw around, if someone else has
already done the work for me. My dragon-slaying, maiden-rescuing days
are behind me. Gotta love that synap-tickle you get when everything
installs as if by magic!

However, it's enlightenment version 1.016.2-3ubuntu1 that's listed.
Mepis --as of version 6.0 this year-- is able to use ubuntu repos. And
they work fine for the most part. No problems here, anyway. But you'll
notice it's not the latest e17.

It probably IS nice and stable. But it's not the latest, hence my
including the link for the up-to-date- source code. IMHO, it's probably
not a good idea to try anything else other than those two alternatives.
BTW, here's another e17 link that might be interesting:
http://www.rasterman.com/index.php?page=E17

And the e17 deb files and e17 ubuntu repos MIGHT work:
http://www1.get-e.org/

I know what you mean about "confessing" to a forum or list. However, it
is often helpful for readers, who now know about some dead-end they
might have otherwise tried to travel.

Heck: learning from my OWN mistakes keeps me plenty busy. I'd rather get
the "short version" and learn from someone else once in a while without
replicating every possible error under the sun.

cheers,
John
