for the record:
1. i have been using linux since 1995
2. i have been using unix/unix shells since 1988.

therefore, I have at least a cursory understanding
that linux is not as necessarily as user friendly as a
mac.

I have compiled serveral kernels (no, this is not a
weekly habit, I have other duties i need to attend to
in order to continue my employment, education, and
marriage) so I think i have a basic idea of what
should come with a linux distribution, even if the
install cd's do not have the kernel source.

2. the fedore core 3 kernel source did not come with
the installation cd, but could be downloaded by either
finding an individual package (that is how i got it,
at
ftp://ftp.cse.buffalo.edu/pub/Linux/fedora/linux/core/3/SRPMS/
), or downloaded with a packge of cd iso's called
FC3-i386-SRPMS-disc?.iso
(ftp://ftp.cse.buffalo.edu/pub/Linux/fedora/linux/core/3/i386/iso/)

3. my particular 'bitch' is RedHat's failure to comply
with the GPL because the SRPM they make available with
FC4 does not unpack to the kernel that they distribute
with the installation cd. This is new for redhat.

4. my other bitch is being treated like a newbie by
people, in and out of redhat, who may not be aware of
the fact that I am resonably experienced with the
ideas of computers, programming and operating systems,
and that my failure to get a driver operable for a
network card, which I have successfully performed 3
times before, is because I have no idea what I am
doing.
