The mythtv documentation
(http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-3.html#ss3.1)
lists the following link:
http://pvrhw.goldfish.org/
for a hardware compabiliity database. You should definetley look through
there before making any decision.
As another poster responded, I too would highly recommend a hardware mpeg
encoder card, especially if you have a slower CPU (the Hauppauge PVR-250
is extremely popular). But if you'd just like to get your hands a little
dirty with video4linux, I have a Aver Media TV Studio card with remote
that does software encoding and works in Linux. Contact me off-list with a
resonable offer if you're interested in it.
