File system not writable or Read only File System errors

Hi everyone:
    Recently I've been getting errors when I try to save files or 
download programs. It claims my home directory is not writable or it 
says it is a read only file system.  Has anyone experienced this before? 
I don't know what has caused this.  I currently run Suse 9.1 on a scsi 
workstation using the reiser file system. Any ideas?
