Normal user sound Debian Q?

Hi all,

  I've been playing around with debian ( testing, sarge  2.6.8-1 kernel 
). It seems pretty nice but..... I can't seem to get sound working as a 
normal user. Works fine as root so I know its a permission prob. Any 
idea what might need to be changed? I scanned over at Debian.org, but 
alot of their how-to's and docs seem a little dated. They were still 
talking about loading alsa modules in the 2.4 kernel. Any one using 
"testing debian"?

Any help would be welcomed.
